Enterprise architecture is often projected as a multipurpose medicine

Enterprise architecture is often projected as a multipurpose medicine that cures an enterprise of all pains and problems.

Enterprise architecture is supposed to ensure that IT systems deliver business value. Too often, it doesn’t. Executives are losing confidence that enterprise architecture can make a real difference to IT.

EA comes in different style, Sometimes a marketing gimmick in management talks, sometimes a means to boast about knowledge of some framework or other as an  academic research topic.

As a consequence, there seems to be a mystical mist surrounding the field of EA.

Enterprise architecture takes a high-level view of the enterprise, focusing on the relationship between an organization’s IT architecture and its business architecture. IT architectures describe IT systems. Business architectures describe business processes. IT systems that do not meet the needs of the business are wasteful. Business processes without good IT support are inefficient.

Enterprise architectures describe how these two architectures complement each other, ensuring that IT systems effectively support the business processes of the organization.

The need for an enterprise architecture was always painfully visible ,Given the evident lack of coordination amongst the software applications and between the business needs, we often longed for a group of vigorous enterprise architects. They would ride in like the good guys in a Western movie and reinstitute order in a world of anarchy.

world at the moment is characterized by its complexity richness of interactions and the speed of change. Consequently, the evolution of system architecture has been switched from information system architecture to enterprise architecture to reflect the complex relationships between the information system and its stakeholders and then we have  abandoned the static vision of architecture  which is based on a target by means of a “blueprint” that must be rigorously pursued for a more dynamic view, focusing on the continuous increasing potential of the company based on its information system.

Enterprise architecture is really about something even more basic: simplicity. The approach to controlling complexity  if  applied successfully to either business architectures or IT architectures can be most effective and a sensible move toward synergy and technology harmonization.
